PHYSICS - HANGERS/ELEVATORS/RAMPS PRACTICE

We have a short one today so let's do a rapid-fire practice session.

You have 9 minutes to do as much as you can on each of the following (To paraphrase a favorite line from Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade - "Choose Wisely")

1) A 54.5 kg box is hanging from two wires. The first wire pulls up and to the left at an angle of 31 degrees to the horizontal. The second wire pulls up and to the right at an angle of 49.5 degrees to the horizontal.

Test to see if the object is at rest (or not).

2) At what rate must an elevator accelerate or decelerate such that a 81.45 kg person inside sees their weight on a bathroom scale read 745 N?

3) A .135 kg cast-iron object is placed on a zinc coated ramp that makes an angle of 48 degrees to the horizontal. The coefficient of friction between those two objects is .85

Will the box slide down the ramp?
